30 quotes from my 3 favourite books | John Green

Prvi put pišem post ovako rano uh. Mislim 7:30 je trenutno i nisam oka sklopila cijelu noć, tako da nadajmo se da ovaj post neće biti totalni promašaj.
I dobrodošli u novi post!
Sve tri knjige su knjige od pisca John-a Green-a i to su Paper Towns, The Fault in Our Stars & Looking for Alaska. Istim ovim redoslijedom će sada ispod pisati i po 10 citata iz svake knjige. Podebljani su citati oni koji mi se stvarno dopadaju ili se čak svrstavaju među omiljenje. Uživajte!

1.)    “That's always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they're pretty. It's like picking your breakfeast cereals based on color instead of taste.”

2.)    “I'm not saying that everything is survivable. Just that everything except the last thing is.”

3.)    “Maybe all the strings inside him broke.”

4.)    “As long as we don't die, this is gonna be one hell of a story.”

5.)    “Maybe its like you said before, all of us being cracked open. Like each of us starts out as a watertight vessel. And then things happen - these people leave us, or don’t love us, or don’t get us, or we don’t get them, and we lose and fail and hurt one another. And the vessel starts to crack in places. And I mean, yeah once the vessel cracks open, the end becomes inevitable. Once it starts to rain inside the Osprey, it will never be remodeled. But there is all this time between when the cracks start to open up and when we finally fall apart. And its only that time that we see one another, because we see out of ourselves through our cracks and into others through theirs. When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade, but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks, the light can get in. The light can get out.”

6.)    “You know your problem, Quentin? You keep expecting people not to be themselves. I mean, I could hate you for being massively unpunctual and for never being interested in anything other than Margo Roth Spiegelman, and for, like, never asking me about how it's going with my girlfriend - but I don't give a shit, man, because you're you. My parents have a shit ton of black Santas, but that's okay. They're them. I'm too obsessed with a reference website to answer my phone sometimes when my friends call, or my girlfriend. That's okay, too. That's me. You like me anyway. And I like you. You're funny, and you're smart, and you may show up late, but you always show up eventually.”

7.)    “As much as life can suck, it always beats the alternative.”

8.)    “It was nice - in the dark and the quiet... and her eyes looking back, like there was something in me worth seeing.”

9.)    “Just remember that sometimes, the way you think about a person isn’t the way they actually are… People are different when you can smell them and see them up close…”

10.)  “Leaving feels good and pure only when you leave something important, something that mattered to you. Pulling life out by the roots. But you can't do that until your life has grown roots.”

11.) “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.”

12.) “Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”

13.) “You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.”

14.)  “Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.”

15.)  “What a slut time is. She screws everybody.”

16.)“There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.”

17.) “Oh, I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”

18.) “Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.”

19.) “There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was time before organisms experienced consciousness, and there will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows that’s what everyone else does.”

20.)  “Without pain, how could we know joy?' This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.”

21.)  “The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive.”

22.) “I may die young, but at least I'll die smart.”

23.)   “It always shocked me when I realized that I wasn’t the only person in the world who thought and felt such strange and awful things.”

24.)  “What you must understand about me is that I’m a deeply unhappy person.”

25.)  “That didn’t happen, of course. Things never happened the way I imagined them.”

26.)   “It's not life or death, the labyrinth. Suffering. Doing wrong and having wrong things happen to you. That's the problem. Bolivar was talking about the pain, not about the living or dying. How do you get out of the labyrinth of suffering?”

27.)   “Y'all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die.”

28.) “People, I thought, wanted security. They couldn't bear the idea of death being a big black nothing, couldn't bear the thought of their loved ones not existing, and couldn't even imagine themselves not existing. I finally decided that people believed in an afterlife because they couldn't bear not to.”

29.) “You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you'll escape one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.”

30.) “If people were like rain, I was like drizzle and she was a hurricane.”
